ÖSTERREICH GP 15/8/21

We use to say “time flies”, and it has never been more true than these past two weeks.
Here, in this cold Austrian GP everything happened, from the retirement of Vale, to the one of Petronas in all the three categories, destabilizing actually, but this is because of this political instability that doesn’t keep us calm. We almost caught the pole position with Suzuki, who made an amazing lap, to end with the positive PCR test of Casadei.

A lot of things have changed, but not for us speaking of results.
In the qualifying, after the superb lap at his limit that brought Tatsuki in second position, he got hit by another rider. In the race instead he hasn’t been able to close in a brilliant way, maybe because distracted by the 2022 contract, maybe because of the injury on his right foot from Saturday, anyway he ended up 11th.
Fellon is learning, he just needs more time, he keeps on battling in the central group.
A huge thanks goes to Stefano Valtulini, ex-rider of ours, who we called four days before the race, and in two hours he was already in the car with me, on his road to the Red Bull Ring. Stefano is now competing in the CIV Supersport, and he had never ridden an electric bike before. He’s been good, he never crashed and he closed the race 15th bringing home one point. It is nice to remain on good terms, we needed a hand and he gave us his immediately, he’s a kind and honest guy, it was a pleasure to work with him again.

The goodbye of Valentino Rossi to MotoGP is the end of an era. Like Michael Schumacher, like Armando Maradona, he is one capable of moving the world, he made millions of people passionate about motorcycling, he made the MotoGP so popular in the World. You go abroad and for everyone Italy means “pizza, spaghetti and Valentino Rossi”. But for me Valentino remains the one of the Southafrican race in ’96, who was there knows. Don’t be too sad, he got a lot from this sport, and he gave everything…. but this is the circle of life. Time flies, yes, but what for anyone is just a moment, he has been capable of making it eternal, writing history.
