QATAR 06/03/22

Two years have passed since the beginning of the pandemic when, probably for the first and unique time in the history, only Moto2 and Moto3 have raced.
We saw regions changing colors, we believed in “staying closed now to go out on Christmas”. We got vaccinated twice, someone also three times. We accepted the Green Pass because the word “Green” gave us hope, but at the end they made it becoming “super” and the green alone did not count anymore.
Now, we no longer speak about Covid, as at the gates of Europe war has become the main topic.
But in today’s absurdity, from which it can be deduced that men are not able to learn from history and in which it seems all but ordinary, restarting with the World Championship has the taste of freedom, that freedom that from so much time, too much, we are not tasting anymore.
Fausto’s team won at his debut in MotoGp. They won their first MotoGp race without him. This is the news that deserves to introduce this press release. We miss Fausto, with his way of laughing and joking. I’m very happy that Bastianini, a rider of few words and aggressive when needed, was able to triumph dedicating him the victory. On the podium of the three categories the Mameli’ anthem has echoed in the Qatar sky for three times, no matter what has been said during these months about the end of the Italian motorcycling.

Regarding us, the evaluation of this weekend is not entirely negative. It has been difficult and demanding, but also satisfactory for some aspects, we also did something good. On Friday we were always on the top, but when it was the moment to sink our teeth into, a mix of loss of lucidity and bad luck took us in the back of the grid, in positions that were not fair for us, that I don’t feel ours.

Sunday… after some considerations I have come to the conclusion that neither Lorenzo nor Riccardo have clear in mind the concept of Warm Up. Try to image my face when they both fell down an hour before the race.
At the end, with Rossi we brought home the 12th position while with Fellon 0 points, as he was rolled out by our friend: Tatsuki, who made a mistake during the third lap. The last year I wrote: “We’ve been so lucky not being involved in others crashes, there have been a lot because during the first GPs rookies want to demonstrate…”.
Making a mistake, I blamed only the new entries.

Without a doubt, there is a lot of work to do, but I glimpsed something positive. Rossi was a pleasant surprise, he takes all with irony and I’m sure he will give us a lot of satisfaction. He only has to understand that there is a clear distinction between “racing while having fun” and “racing while playing a game”.
Fellon can ride a motorbike, he is a sweet and stubborn guy who is passing through a difficult moment, he has the right capabilities but he needs to be able to wait. I can understand parents’ anxiety, but one must be able to ration the excess. Excess is never good, even in good faith. I have been a dad of a rider too and I know the difficulties, certainly I was cumbersome too sometimes. Being present for a son is important but we should pay attention at the slight difference between supporting and oppressing.
Parents can be the ones that hold their son’s hands and bring them to the victory or the ones that make them blow up… like the fireworks in Qatar, amazing yes, but with the risk that they will blow out meter by meter.
