CZECH GP 09/8/2020

Brno is a circuit situated in the middle of a wood, so silent to seem spellbound, today more than ever, considering there was no public. The track is very large, with a straight of 636 meters which means that “to get the slipstream” is the essential to make a good lap-time, with its curves up and down, with an asphalt worn out by time that ruined our weekend.

Suzuki grew up a lot this last year, and he is strong, we both know that, and it motivates him to always give his best. He started the weekend with the right mentality, he was making a perfect race but later he committed two heavy mistakes.
The first one: while he was in 2nd position, he chose to overtake Arenas not being able to close the turn so everyone overtook him back. The second one: he braked too hard in the downhill while turning in a counterslope full of hollows. He is like a veteran now so he must know he can’t force his bike in such a ruined asphalt, you can’t “just try” to overtake there, he should have known that. Anyway he qualified again in the 1st row, for the 4th time and not doing his best lap-time, as he was not pushing over the limit. He should have done it in the latest run but he couldn’t because of those strategies that are now considered cool in Moto3.

The bright side of this weekend maybe was the comeback of Antonelli. It has been a quite unlucky year for him: the accident, the surgery, staying away from the track without racing for a long time. It took some time to get back with the pace. He had a huge crash, he began the season “in defence”, starting to believe in himself and the bike little by little, turn after turn. The only thing missing was the final attack, the one of the tiger, his own one. Marco Grana and himself have been looking for it the entire weekend, the jealous one will say they couldn’t find it, but I can say instead that a 4th position in such a crowded and difficult Moto3 is absolutely to cheer. The only pity is that Antonelli could have had the chance to overtake Ogura on the last turn and it wasn’t because of the power of his engine that he didn’t. What can I say if not “Carpe diem”, in life as in races, if you don’t catch it, time flies away.

It’s a pity for this weekend, I was modestly already seeing the beautiful SIC58 mask taking the prize (just joking), but yes, I do was dreaming a good placement for my riders to consolidate both the riders and teams classifications.

Now a quick stop at home, just the time to write some quick insults in the press release as I like to, and we’re ready to go back stronger in just 642km… Spielberg is waiting for us!
